Special Olympics basketball player Sophie Widdowson gets a helping hand from Chesterfield Soroptimists
Three years ago she was five and a half stones heavier than she is today, lacking in confidence and direction.
Today, with the help of Fairplay, she has developed her life skills to such an extent that she was the speaker at Chesterfield Soroptimists’ supper meeting.

Sophie is hoping to win medals for her country at the Special Olympics in March. She will be among 129 British athletes taking part in different sports which have attracted competitors from 172 other countries.
Chesterfield Soroptimists were so impressed with the endeavours of Sophie, a local girl, that they presented her with a cheque for £250 towards the costs entailed in representing her country. Members hope to raise more money over the coming months.
Sophie is a perfect example of what Soroptimists hope to see become of young women - that they are enabled, empowered and educated to achieve the best they possibly can.
