Highways England says all four lanes of the southbound M1 between junctions 29 and 28 are now open after an earlier crash.

Delays remain after the collision, which Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said involved ‘a vehicle, a caravan and gas cylinders’.

There is congestion on the M1 with delays of up to 30 minutes for drivers and at one stage this afternoon there was 4.5 miles of tailbacks following the collision which caused a vehicle to overturn.

Motorists are urged to allow extra time to complete journeys.
