The news shocked many celebrities and fans alike, with Former US president Barack Obama among those paying tribute to the star.

Now, Coogler has shared his own tribute in a blog post on the Marvel website, writing a lengthy note about his time working with the actor.

Coogler 'wasn't privy’ to Boseman’s illness

Discussing his initial impression of the actor, Coogler wrote, “I noticed then that Chad was an anomaly,” Coogler wrote. “He was calm. Assured. Constantly studying. But also kind, comforting, had the warmest laugh in the world, and eyes that seen much beyond his years, but could still sparkle like a child seeing something for the first time.”

The filmmaker explained how he “wasn’t privy” to the details of the actor’s illness even when the pair worked together on set.
