The 27-year-old, who can also play further forward, is ‘expected to sign’ for the Spireites after departing the National League North leaders, according to Gloucestershire Live.
His potential arrival would appear to suggest that left-backs David Buchanan and Tyler Denton could be on their way out, especially with Joel Taylor only having just signed.

Whittle, who started his career at Liverpool, joined Gloucester in the summer on a two-year deal after from Boston United.
His other clubs include Dunfermline, AFC Fylde, Southport, York City, Forest Green Rovers and Warrington Town.
Rowe has already made two signings this week in loan duo Jack Clarke and Marcus Dinanga.
Whittle would be Rowe’s eighth signing since being appointed on November 26.
